Weco Raises €600,000 to Accelerate Wave Energy Development
Dutch startup Weco secures €600,000 investment from NEW-ttt fund, Init Power B.V. and Cyriel de Jong to advance wave energy converter development and open sea testing.

The Hague, the Netherlands — 28 October 2025 — The oceans are in constant motion, carrying immense untapped potential for renewable energy. Harnessing that energy efficiently has long been a challenge. Dutch startup Weco is developing technology that converts this natural motion into clean, reliable power.
To accelerate development, Weco has secured a €600,000 investment from Netherlands Enabling Water Technology fund (NEW-ttt), Init Power B.V. and Cyriel de Jong. The funding will be used to advance the development and open sea testing to optimize the next-generation prototype ahead of larger-scale demonstrations.
"This investment marks a major step forward for Weco," said Cas van de Voort, cofounder of Weco. "It provides us additional resources to secure the next steps in validating our technology under real sea conditions. We're excited to continue our mission of turning waves into watts."
Founded in 2023, Weco is creating a new generation of modular, lightweight, and storm-resilient wave energy converters. Designed for simplicity, durability, and scalability, the system is built to power offshore applications such as autonomous systems and sensors, offshore platforms, and island communities.
Weco's approach is translated in its Kaizen system, which converts the circular motion of waves into continuous energy through a compact mechanical design. The system has been engineered to maximize energy capture while remaining lightweight and easy to manufacture, deploy, and maintain. Its modular construction enables scaling from small applications to larger arrays of wave energy converters.
Sybo Zijlstra, Investment Manager NEW-ttt states: "We are proud to support Weco in their mission to harness the power of the sea and turn it into sustainable energy. Their technology perfectly aligns with our vision to drive groundbreaking innovations that accelerate the energy transition – even on the open sea."
"Weco's combines strong engineering fundamentals with a clear vision for impact," said Frank van Beek of Init Power B.V. "We see significant potential for this system in the offshore energy transition going forward."
Weco is preparing for its next round of testing in 2026, collaborating with local and international partners to validate performance and reliability and work towards commercial applicability of the technology. The company's long-term goal is to make wave energy a part of the global energy transition, turning waves into watts.
